I do retail and make $9 an hour.I am going to go to beauty school for hair and nails and I eventually want to open my own place, but I know I have to start at the bottom and work for someone else for a while.I am wondering if it will be a pay cut.I am in Florida.Anyone have any insight? :)
Initially you may see a pay cut but you do get some great tips which really helps! My best friend is a hairdresser and she makes good money, she has built up her reputation and even when the salon is closed she is still in demand!

Good Luck!

My summer break just started cause my school is trimester. I have never worked before, but now Im trying to get a job at retail stores (best buy, banana republuic, armani exchange, GNC, etc). How do I apply to the stores to get a job?
Is it done online or do I contact the store?

schools.medianewsonline.com - I found such internship info here. It has lots of internships, job openings and scolarships for college students.

I don’t work retail, but I know people who do and their schedules are always changing. Why don’t they just make a set schedule and leave it alone?

I’ve worked in retail for years. Yes, it’s true that schedules always change. People get hired, people get fired, people take vacations, people have even been known to have affairs with the manager in exchange for which they ’steal’ another person’s shift (that has happened to me MANY times - girls willing to spread their legs ’steal’ my decent schedule even though I’ve been at the place much longer and said girls have absolutely no idea what the heck they are doing when it comes to the job). So I’ve been on the roller-coaster known as retail.

Everyone guns to get weekend days off. People choose to get elective surgery done (especially during the holiday season so that they don’t have to deal with the busy season). They come back to work in February when the store is really slow.

It actually has become ridiculous at times. For a while, my manager was scheduling me to work eleven days straight - yes, eleven - working both night and day shfts. I.e. he would schedule me to work until 11 PM and close the store on Monday, for example, and then I was also scheduled to open the store on Tuesday morning at 6 AM.

They are very clever. See, even on those eleven day stretches, I never got over 40 hours per week, hence got no overtime pay. I have eventually learned to fight back a little bit. I don’t have any qualms about calling in sick anymore. When I started, I never would. I became known as the ‘go-to guy’. When someone else called in sick, they always called me to cover. And I did. But then I realized that I was being taken advantage of, so now I am also a person who calls in sick once in a while (if I am sick). I don’t even answer my phone on my days off anymore. The beauty of caller ID. If it’s a friend, of course I call them back. If it’s work - sorry, but I’m not home. Both the employer and the employee can play games. I am no longer just a pawn in their game.

What is the best website for jobs in the retail sector in Australia? In terms of numbers of vacancies?

In particular I’m interested in fashion retail jobs in Brisbane.

Job searching can be a hard task in itself, especially if you’re not used to it. I was having a hard time with my job searching for the last month until I stumbled upon the site in the box below resource which has some brilliant instruction for job searchers. After following their helpful advice for a few weeks I got myself myself a brilliant job.
