I know someone who was currently working as a nurse, but due to an accident, they are now handicap and unable to work. They can no longer do the things they use to, such as lifting anything heavier than 5lbs or getting around easy, but they still have a deep love for the nursing field, and have an urge to work.
I was wondering, are there ANY nursing jobs that this person can preform from the comfort of their OWN home?
While it’s possible to find jobs where you aren’t doing direct patient care (such as ask-a-nurse phone lines, or insurance company case review, etc.), working from home is pretty rare.
How hard is it to get a job as a registered nurse right now? I’ve heard that they are in high demand, but then I hear that most hospitals are having hiring freezes on RN’s. Anyone have any experiences with finding jobs recently?
New nurses are not in demand; experienced nurses are in demand. You’d think that they would just bite the bullet and train a bunch of new nurses, but that’s not the way it works. To get a job as a new nurse, you need to look everywhere and be willing to take any shift and department.
I was wondering about the different types of nurses. i want a summary of what they do and how much education they need. thanks. details are appreciated. :o)
oh and sallary if you know it.
Nurses are employed in many different settings. What they do varies greatly depending on the setting, the area within that setting, and even the shift. Generally, nurses are responsible for the health and safety of the patient; how they carry out that responsibility varies greatly.
Salary also varies across the United States, but nurses usually make well above minimum wage and have much more economic stability than most other careers out there.
I was thinking Flight Nurse but thats a hard job to get into… I’m looking for other positions in critcal care or such like jobs.
I know i should talk to a recruiter but i live in a small town and the recruiters an hour an a half drive.. and my truck doesn’t do so well…
any suggestions for nursing jobs would be good.
opportunity available to you is training for U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Medical Support, which entails setting up, stocking, and running remote hospitals or medical provisions in austere locations that may be in high-operations areas, including combat zones and places hit by natural disasters.
Air Force nursing offers a world of other practice locations and leadership opportunities. As an Air Force nurse, you can relocate every 3 to 4 years to assignments in the United States and abroad, or sometimes stay longer at one location.
On completion of the nurse transition program, you’ll enter into one of two initial practice settings, medical-surgical or obstetrics-gynecology. Then once you’ve mastered basic nursing knowledge, you’ll have the opportunity to experience other areas.

I’m wondering what kinds of jobs would deliver the same kind of experience that a nurse would have like working with bed ridden patients, cathaders and feeding tubes, the preventing of bed sores, etc., but without the requirement of a nurses certifaction. I’m thinking possibly an aid from a nursing home but I don’t want to guess.
Nursing home aid, volunteer at a hospital, receptionist at a doctor’s office, study nursing books, go to school- get your General and get signed up for the Nursing program.
Start looking and feeling like you work in the medical field and you will be doing it much faster.
You can do this, if its your dream, make it your reality.
Good luck

I’m studying to be an RN, and like woking with geriatric patients. What are the best paying jobs in this field?
The demand for geriatric nurses will grow as our population ages. I have visited geriatric psych units and geriatric ERs–hospitals will continue to adapt to fit the growing numbers of patients. With an NP in gerontology, I understand you can earn good money as a consultant or a geriatric care manager, helping the elderly and their families with health care, services and end of life issues.
* Nursing
* Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
* Practical Nursing (LPN)
* Nursing (RN)
* Vocational Nursing (LVN)
* Certified Nurse
* R.N. to B.S.N.
Your list is a little off.
"Nursing" is a general term; used to define a large scope of individuals with varying education and skills.
CNA’s are nursing assistants. They change linens, help feed and bathe/change people, help with mobilizing patients, basic care.
LPN’s and LVN’s are basically the same thing. They are limited scope nurses (scope varies from state to state, and country-country). In the US, some of these nurses are eligible to write the RN exam. In Canada, they are not.
RN nurses are mostly Bachelor degree holders (but not all- there are some older nurses who are hospital trained. They are full scope nurses.
"Certified" isn’t a term commonly used in nursing- I’ve never heard of it. I’ve heard of "Registered nurse" or "Licensed Nurse". Which basically means you have your nursing license.
RN to BSN is not a nursing position. It is an educational pathway that some RN’s take who do not yet have their BSN.
