I am a massage therapist and I can sing/dance a little plus, I have experience in clerical work. I am interested in traveling but all of the sites online I have found want you to buy a book wth job listings in it. This does not sound legitimate to me. Is there another place to get this information?

Don’t pay for information you can get for free. Go to www.cruiselinesjobs.com, there’s quite a lot about cruise line employment there for free. Also, they have a long list of recruitment agents in their directory.

The best places for applying for a job on a cruise ship are probably websites of individual cruise lines - Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Disney Cruises, etc.

I find specialized job sites useful as well, mainly www.allcruisejobs.com and www.catererglobal.com.

I frequent gaijinpot and ohayo sensei, but ohayo sensei’s only bi-weekly, and gaijinpot’s alright, but it’s just one site.

It’s kind of annoying because let’s face it….everyone wants to know the pay of the job. Why waste my time and apply for the job that might make far less than what I expect?

You can turn the question around: why don’t most applicants put their desired salary on their resumes? We know that employers *don’t* talk to people whose salary expectations are higher than what they are willing to pay, and use the salary expectation figure as a candidate-screening criteria.

The bottom line is that many openings have negotiable salaries, depending on the candidate’s level of experience. Of course, employers would not advertise that, since often times they can get someone for their minimal amount, especially in this economy. Candidates can ask: what is the salary *range* for this position, and state their expectations within that range.

Your local employment/ unemployment office will have a board or a book with current job openings.

Always apply in person, have a resume no matter how simple.
Ask to hand the application to the manager when you are finished filling it out.
Shake his/her hand and sell yourself.

I have had success sending students and young adults over to Job.com. They seem to like it and they say that is has been a good place to start for the application process. There are plenty of places to get the link, and it is really easy to follow. The process is not intrusive and you should be off and running in no time. As a counselor for employment I am always looking to put students and young adults ahead of the pack, with this economy it is important to get off to an early start for the Summer.
