I’ve heard that there is a good number of foreign chef/prep cooks, or hotel workers in Thailand. What are the requirements for a work permit for these kinds of jobs. I will be marrying my fiance who is from Thailand, and going there next year with a spouse visa.

I am a 26 year old white American btw, and have lived in Korea/Japan for 7 years. (military then student then worked in several companies)

I currently do not qualify for a teaching permit in Thailand.

Service jobs are prohibited for foreigners so you can’t get those kind of jobs.

Even if you could there is a minimum wage requirement to obtain a work permit and those jobs don’t come close to meeting it, so again you can’t get a work permit.

Thinking of working illegally? Would be a shame to get deported and leave your wife behind in Thailand.

You are aware of the financial requirements to obtain a spouse visa, right? Either 400,000 baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40,000 baht per month income.

I have heard that not only do jobs cleaning up the oil spill pay 18-20$ an hour, but some will actually put you up in a hotel while you work there. Meaning I live in Jacksonville FL, and I could take a job in Panama City or Pensacola FL, and live rent free while making that kind of hourly pay… has anyone else found or heard anything like this?

It’s possible, tho I imagine a lot of those jobs have been filled by those in the area whose jobs have been affected (fishing and tourism industries, especially.) However, not sure they’re putting many people up in Florida as yet…most of the intense effort is farther west. Also, there have been some reports in the media of teams just sitting around unpaid doing nothing because of logistic problems (lack of cleanup materials, boats, etc.)

I have not worked on a cruise ship but have been on many cruises and talked with the staff about their work. I have answered questions about getting jobs of cruise ships many times before and my standard answer is below. You may have seen it.

Royal Caribbean does have one of the best web sites for "jobs" information: like this: https://www.royalcareersatsea.com/

You need to go to the cruise line web sites. There you will find a link to jobs, employment, human resources or some such link that will give you information about their positions. Use these web sites as a lead to who and where to write or call for information about positions. Some sites have actual vacancies listed and they also will list in general terms the basic requirements for working on a cruise ship. Many cruise lines use "hiring partners" who are agencies around the world who help them find and screen candidates.

DO NOT use any other web sites that require you to pay a fee to register or get job information or referrals. Carnival cruise line actually has a warning on its site about cruise jobs scams. Check this web link: http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/fun_jobs…

Carnival is the parent company for several cruise lines including Carnival, Cunard, Princess, and Holland America. So contacting Carnival you can ask for leads to the other cruise lines also.

CARNIVAL:
http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/

Then Royal Caribbean cruise line is a partner with Celebrity and Azamara. So you can ask for leads to these others.

CELEBRITY:
http://www.celebritycruises.com/home .

NORWEGIAN:
http://www.ncl.com/

DISNEY:
http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/..…

Another thing to do is to contact the concession that run the shops on the ships like the photo, souvenir, gift and clothing shops. These are also the companies that hire the beauty shop/spa employees for ships. Below are links for you.

http://www.steinerleisure.com/

and

http://www.hardingbros.co.uk/

The cruise lines also hire people to work on land at call in reservation and information centers around the country. Some are in Miami and others are in Seattle and other cities. In addition, they also hire part-time people to work at the port on the days when ships are departing. So when you contact the cruise lines you may want to ask about those type positions also. Keep all of your options for a job open and be prepared to wait a long time for the process to work.

i have received an e-mail from marriott hotel toronto that they have vaccancies.i have applied for.but i want to know that,is it true or fraud?

I have just located what I think was this fraudelent email on another website. I am hoping that you did not send them any money or any personal info, such as credit card information or SIN. If you have, report this immediately to the police and your credit card company. Check your balance, too. Yes, this is a fraud. No real company would ask for money to give you a job.

Check to see if this is similar to your email.

The Villa Life, Jamaica

Posted by: Category: hotel jobs

So you’ve rented a villa for your Jamaica vacation. Now what?
Well if you’ve rented a luxury, staffed villa here’s what you
might expect: Your driver will meet you at the airport in a
comfortable, air-conditioned van. On the drive to your villa, he
will indicate points of interest along the road and provide
refreshments- if it is a long drive do not hesitate to request a
stop. Upon arrival at your villa you will be greeted by your
staff; they are your caretakers for the duration of your stay
and you should feel completely at ease making reasonable
requests of them. Get to know your head-of-house as he or she
will be your primary point of contact should you have any
questions about the villa and how it operates. Your cook will
handle grocery shopping and meal preparation. She will
prepurchase your first few meals plus pantry staples, then
finish the week’s shopping after meeting with you. A typical
grocery budget is US$210 per adult per week (more in some
villas) … less for children. This may vary up or down
depending on market prices and menus. If you wish to go to the
various markets with your cook, feel free to do so. Otherwise,
simply review with her your likes and dislikes and she will
handle everything while you stay at the villa and relax. At some
of the villa colonies, like Tryall, it is possible for your cook
to charge groceries to your account, which you then settle at
the end of your stay. At most of the independent villas, unless
you’ve arranged for a mealplan, your cook will request money for
shopping; she’ll bring you receipts and change. The day starts
while guests are still asleep. The cook quietly places pots of
steaming Jamaican coffee and platters of fresh fruit outside
your bedroom door or at the breakfast table. Full breakfast is
served when all guests are ready. A typical breakfast may
include fresh orange juice and several fruits, banana fritters
or plantain, eggs, bacon, pancakes or cereal. Light lunches are
usual in Jamaica, then for dinner your cook will prepare her own
mix of Jamaican specialties … including delicious homemade
soups and desserts, ackee and saltfish, jerk pork or chicken,
shrimp or curried goat. Lobster, too, when in season … she can
of course also serve traditional American fare as you request.
Warning: Jamaican cooks are excellent and portions are big. Your
chambermaid and laundress will care for every detail of your
bedroom and bath … providing a daily supply of fresh linens
and flowers and returning your neatly-folded laundry each
afternoon before turning down your bed each evening. The
gardener will maintain the pool and grounds immaculately each
day. Larger villas are staffed by a butler who serves, tends bar
and generally facilitates. Available on request are a masseuse,
children’s nanny and chauffeur. At the conclusion of your stay
it is customary to tip for good service. Villa staffs, like most
jobs in the service industry, rely on tips as part of their
overall compensation. Recommended gratuities tend to be around
10% of the villa rental in High Season ~ 15% of the villa rental
in Low Season (some villas have more specific guidelines). These
percentages apply to the entire staff, not to each individual
staff member. In each villa, you will find a gratuity guide
advising you how tips should be distributed among your staff
members based on their seniority- in some cases you can pay the
entire amount to the head of house or directly to the property
manager for distribution. Once you have experienced the villa
lifestyle, it is only natural to be intrigued by the prospect of
owning one of these extraordinary properties. Whether it is an
existing villa or a home site on which to build the vacation
house of your dreams Jamaica’s experienced real estate agents
will help you find it.

What are the advantages to staying in a villa over a hotel? The
only true privacy you get in a hotel is in your bedroom or
suite. In a villa everything belongs to you ~ the pool, the sun
beds, the terrace, the music, the TV ~ it is your home every
minute of the day. You will only see the people you wish to see.
Even your staff will become “invisible” if that is what you
want, appearing only at those times you ask them to serve you.
In a villa you decide everything from what you eat to the time
you eat it. And yet, despite having all these major advantages,
a villa vacation compares very favorably on price with a hotel.
Certain villas include temporary memberships in private clubs
such as Tryall, Round Hill and Wyndham Rose Hall that offer a
host of activities including golf, tennis and watersports. Those
actually located within a villa colony offer the best-of-both
worlds, with the complete privacy of a villa vacation and all
the amenities and social opportunities of a fine resort.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

If you had more time and more money, what would you do more of?

The overwhelming response is:

“Travel!”

Almost everyone wants to travel more. But there are two things most people need more of that are essential to travel:

1) Money

2) Time

Let me explain that money really is not the issue for many people, although most tend to think that it is the #1 thing they need more of to travel.

This simply is not true. Travel agencies have programed us into thinking that travel is expensive. They try to make us think that it costs $4,000 plus round-trip airfare for a short 10 to 14 day vacation.

Travel agencies try to sell us travel. The fact of the matter is - you can’t sell travel anymore than you can sell air.

But they certainly try to charge you for it.

World travel can be done for only $1,000 a month - or less. No, this does not mean that you’ll be sleeping on the streets and eating out of dumpsters.

Instead, you’ll be doing everything you want to do, and travel very comfortably as well.

When you cut-out those ridiculously over-priced packaged tours, you pay what the locals pay. You can enjoy a nice buffet is some countries for as little as $0.50, or book a 3-star hotel for $10.

When you know how to do it, the cost of world travel averages to only $1,000 a month (there are others who travel without spending anything - do a Google search on Peter Jenkins for an example).

As you can see, when you know how to travel independently, money isn’t the problem.

The #1 thing people need to travel is - TIME.

Earning $1,000 a month is easy. What you need is the time to travel. I’m not talking about a 2-week vacation once a year. I’m talking about traveling as much as you like, when you like.

The biggest problem most people have with getting the time to travel is their job.

You could earn more than enough money to travel the world at your job, but you don’t have the time. If you quit your job to have the time to travel, you don’t have the money.

If I was making $10,000 a month at a job I hated that wouldn’t let me travel, or if I could make just $2,000 a month and have the time to do anything I please, I’d choose the latter.

What you need is a way to make money while traveling. Let’s say you earn only $2,000 a month - but you do so from anywhere on the planet. It only costs about $1,000 a month to travel the world. So this way you’ll have the time and the money (with $1,000 left over each month) to travel anywhere you want to, at any time, for as long as you desire.

Most of us are simply clueless when it comes to making money while traveling. However, there are scores of ways to do so as outlined in my other articles. Do a Google search for “travel jobs” and “adventure jobs” to find several opportunities that allow you to travel while earning money.

When you make money while traveling you will have an abundance of the two essentials to travel - time and money, and you’ll be able to travel where you want, when you want.

There is the politically correct propaganda and there is the truth.
Switzerland is one of the most sophisticatedly discriminatory places on earth. The German-Swiss do not accept that citizens of Geneva are really Swiss.I met a Swiss student who paid a great deal of money to have his passport changed to make his birthplace the German rather than the Italian part.Half my relatives are German-Swiss.My grandfather owned a hotel in Zurich.
Your real prospects in the Hotel business in Switzerland is like climbing the Eiger,it can be done but it is not easy.
