You won’t get arrested for it. But check with your manager. It may be against departmental or agency policy.

It’s a US government job and my bisexual friend has been told he’d be fired if he discussed his sexuality. I know of the ridiculous Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell mantra of the armed forces but this is a desk job with the census.

If your friend is discussing it all the time, to the point of annoyance, or in great detail, then the boss is within his/her rights. (Just like if a straight person was constantly discussing their sexuality.) It’s not relevant to the job. But if it’s just talking about the men and women he has dated in routine conversation like anyone talking about dating, then the boss should back off, unless he is saying the same thing to straight employees. It is discrimination.

The rights for federal civilian employees are listed below. Discrimination based on sexual orientation is illegal in federal employment. (Now if they would pass ENDA and make it illegal in all employment.)

you can be hired if you have considerable experience in the US in a similar role. other than that, you also need a permanent work authorization status.

You really need to check your employment contract/manuals. Some agencies do prohibit "moonlighting". What is construed as moonlighting by the government job you work for would be defined there.

It isn’t illegal to have multiple jobs. It would be more of breaking policy which could lead you to being fired. You don’t really say what kind of government job you have. I know a few police officers that are allowed to "moonlight" when they aren’t on shift as security guards. I also know there are certain legal government jobs that do not allow you to have a second job where you can use skills and knowledge gained from the government job. You really have to just go and ask your HR.
