I have a friend that is pursuing online jobs to work from home, and I wonder if any of these are scams or for real. When answering, can you explain how you know this is a real job and not a scam - thanks.

Regular jobs involving computers or phones (telecommuting);
some are assembly/piecework.

What are some legitimate work-from-home on the computer jobs?

They range from:
sales, Information Technology support, medical coding & billing, transcription, mailings, "crafts" or other piecework assembly

Both larger and smaller companies are trying to decrease costs and overhead
by having you provide your own "office" and materials/supplies
provided they have a way to supervise the quality and quantity of your work

When answering,
can you explain how you know this is a real job and not a scam?

Red flags:
- if they ask you for any "up front" money
- if they ask for any information normally not on an employment application,
for instance your bank account or credit card information
- if it sounds too good to be true

Be careful,
many are scamming their "worker"s with low wages, up front fees, etc.

Some others scam their "customer"
sometimes leaving the "worker" on the hook legally
(when the authorities show up and close the operations down and start arresting people -
be very cautious about many "international" operations).
For instance, telephone boiler room operations selling products/services.

Research the product or service,
and be careful if you do not believe in it personally.

Figure out what you need to do in order to make a certain amount of money
and how they will judge your performance and compensate you for your work.

Most do not pay very well unless you are able to work independently and quickly.
I did transcription, typing, etc. in college for a penny a character,
I was very quick - so it paid well.

Many promise you can make "up to"
be realistic and figure out how hard you are likely to work
and what you are likely to make in return.

I don’t want to use this for malicious purposes. I am interested in the techniques and the science behind it. Also is it true that the united states air force has people who hack other countries’ computers? If so do they teach you how? How would you go about enlisting? In addition Is there any other computer related jobs in the military?

CTN in the Navy. fairly new rating, recently opened up to New accessions. CyberCommand has just begun going Live as well.

all Five Branches have computer related jobs.. operating. troubleshooting, maintaining. hell nearly every weapon system we have is computer driven some way or another.

Computer Training

there’s so many different things you learn in college for a career working with computers….I don’t think anyone could possibly remember everything on top of all the work for 4 years. Once you get your degree and find a job do they really expect you to know everything off the bat?? or do they teach you and expect you to learn new and what they want/need for the job on the job?

A little bit of both. They expect new grads to have a good grounding in most computer areas. They don’t expect you to be an expert on anything. For example, if you graduate and want to go into coding - then will expect you to know enough to be a ‘junior developer’. They know you will learn a lot. They expect you to work hard.

I am looking to land a Computer Job (IT related) in the Navy where I can land a great job after my contract is done in the Navy. What are the different types of Computer Jobs that the US Navy offer? What part of the ASVAB aside from MK, AR,VE must I do well to qualify? What is the minimum AFQT score I must obtain to qualify for Computer Jobs in the Navy?

Why would you join the Navy to get into computers? I just got out of refurbing servers for 2 years. It sucks. But you don’t need any real training to do it. Look up a local value added reseller and get an A+ cert. You can be making like $14 an hour in 2 weeks.

If you are joining the Navy do something else. Get into HVAC, some secure field where the things you learned 2 years ago are still actually relevant.

well I’m a senior student and I’m planning to get a good future someday that produce high salaries. is there a good job related about computers that surely promise me to have good future.

If I had a bet, I would suggest going into the security field - be it network security or application security. I think this will be a growth area in the future. There won’t be tons of jobs in it, but if you’re smart, there’ll be a place for you. It impacts so many, but so few really understand it.
