I received my bachelors in architecture from the Dominican Republic and work in NYC, for a very very low pay. I’m planning to move to boulder in January. Any info on how to land an architectural job or related field would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Check with The City of Boulder or any other city governments in Colorado. You can sometimes find Jobs With Cities that require architects.

what are some top companies to work for in the design sector for architecture or CAD. and what are some good starting points for someone finishing college with a diploma in construction management and civil engineering. is it possible to get a job after college in either architecture or CAD without having to go to university?

I’m not sure about specifiIc comanies but in the UK’s current economic climate is less likely that you’ll get a job at a top company with only diploma, as there are already many experienced unemployed people & university graduates looking for jobs. A top company would be more likely to hire people who already have experience/qualifications.

If you/your family are able to provide financial support in the short term. There is nothing to stop you contacting companies. You could ask if they would be interested in offering you a work experience placement, maybe you could even offer to work for free for a period. This would give them an incentive & It could allow you to get a foot in the door & gain on-the-job experience and give you an opportunity to demonstrate your character & skills.

You never know, if you impress them, they might offer you a full time position, and If nothing else, you could gain useful experience for the future.

I am asking about jobs after graduating in Architecture !

hmm. im not sure about this year but i doubt it. my cousin gradutaed last year and shesstill doesnt have ajob even though she graduated with a 4.0 and a perfect resume . its really hard to find a job in architecture in this economy. ohh and she told me that you have to work for like 2 years before you are even get your architetual license. so it takes alot to become an actual arrchitect.

1. Someone who have a BS in architecture
2. Someone who have a BS and a MS in architecture
3. Someone who have a BS in Civil Engineering and a MS in architecture
4. Someone who have a BS in architecture and a MS in civil engineering

If you want to be an architect, study architecture. An MS would give you an edge in a competitive market. You will study what you need to know about civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering in your architecture coursework. Most employers don’t see a civil engineering degree as more beneficial than an architectural degree when you are applying for the position of architect.

There are base planners (like a city planner) but I believe most if not all of them are civilians. And all Architectural needs are also contracted out to civilians. You could become a Civil Engineer which is sort of close to what you want.

Given that on the other side of the coin I would be going to University of Florida (Or Miami) for their architecture program. Do art schools have better programs? Would I be more likely and easier to find a job in architecture after graduating? Or is it better to get a degree from UF and then get like a masters at an arts school? Help!

It depends on what you want to do after graduating. If you want to be an effective builder, going to an art school probably isn’t the best plan. You’ll want to understand how a building is put together, how structure works…all that good stuff.

However, if you want to be a designer, teacher, or artist by all means attend an art school.
